Now a man was ill, Lazarus from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. Mary was the one who had anointed the Lord with perfumed oil and dried his feet with her hair; it was her brother Lazarus who was ill. So, the sisters sent word to him, saying, “Master, the one you love is ill.” When Jesus heard this he said, “This illness is not to end in death, but is for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.
John 11:1-4
This week, we are asking why God’s timing doesn’t always make sense to us. In this gospel story, Jesus gets news that one of his close friends, named Lazarus, the brother of Martha and Mary, is ill and close to dying.
While God’s timing in these kinds of situations might not make sense, Jesus’ response tells us two things. First, Jesus is in control, even when it doesn’t seem that way. Second, Jesus always acts for the glory of God and so that the Son of God may be glorified.
Today, pray to surrender control to God so that Jesus may be glorified in all your thoughts and actions.
