Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his own native language...yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God.” - Acts 2:5-8, 11
What just happened? Galileans were not considered to be the most educated folks of the time. Yet all the pilgrims understood what the disciples were saying, in their own language. The disciples of Jesus were filled with the Holy Spirit who enabled them to speak languages they hadn’t spoken previously. Why? They were filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit and revelation of God’s story of salvation. They couldn’t contain their joy of the good news of salvation. They had to tell of God’s mighty deeds, to give glory to God but also to preview what God was planning to do.
When God touches us through the Holy Spirit, the person and story of Jesus become personal. The joy of his love for us becomes irrepressible. We can’t help but share it. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with a fresh awareness of who Jesus is and what he thinks of you. If you are able to and have an opportunity, share your joy with someone else.
