“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everythingand remind you of all that I told you.” -John 14:26
Why did the Father send an Advocate to us? Why did he think it necessary for us to have the Holy Spirit in our lives? “Advocate” comes from the Greek word “Parakletos” and it means “one who is called alongside.” Jesus preached and demonstrated the kingdom and power of God over and over to his disciples. But he knew human limitations. He knew that they would need help remembering how to follow his example and knowing the best thing to do or say to continue his work.
When Jesus gave the Great Commission, to proclaim the Kingdom of God and baptize people into the Kingdom, he meant for us to do that with the power of the Holy Spirit active in us. That same world-transforming power of God that worked miracles of healing, deliverance, and salvation is given to us to transform our world and establish God’s kingdom in our lives.
Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to increase His presence in your life today and to help you be more aware of His presence. That is the reason He was sent.
