May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a Spirit of wisdom and revelation resulting in knowledge of him. May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones. -Ephesians 1:17-18
Psalm 139 says, “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand.” What is God thinking about? For one thing, you! You bear the image of God and the identity of Jesus.
Many Christians have an identity crisis. They don’t know who they are. They don’t know whose they are. Once we begin to understand who God is, we can begin to understand who we are. A partial reason for this identity crisis is the deception that we are not worthy of God’s love. Our hearts may be hardened by wounds, sin, and regret. But Jesus declared that we are worthy of His very life. He made us worthy on the cross. The Holy Spirit helps us by enlightening the “eyes of our heart” to really see the Father’s love for us and the riches of glory we inherited in Jesus and have access to now. As the father in the parable of the prodigal son said to his older son, “Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.”
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the Father’s heart for you today. Ask him to fill you with the hope that belongs to His call.
