“Comfort, give comfort to my people says your God.” Isaiah 40:1
God tells the prophet Isaiah to give comfort to his people. The Israelites were living in exile in Babylon, far away from their homeland and in great distress. Being separated from their home, they felt far from God as well. But the prophet assures them that they can take comfort because their situation is about to change for the better. We receive comfort when someone recognizes our problem or difficulty and tells us that we do not have to face that challenge all on our own, and that they will be with us.
This weekend, we have the opportunity to give comfort to God’s people in Kenya and Haiti. We can make a real difference in the lives of our mission partners. They lack the necessary resources to educate their children and give them a better future, but God has given us the resources to serve them. It’s a fun way to give and we can be generous in a way that makes a huge impact on their communities.
Pray today for the grace to be generous and to grow as a giver.
