Too long we have been like those you do not rule on whom your name is not invoked. “Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down with the mountains quaking before you.”
Isaiah 63:19
Isaiah recognizes that Israel suffers because it is separated from God. And so he calls out to God for his presence. We hear the ache that comes from his heart as he says, “Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down.” Rip open anything that separates us from you and make your presence known.
Christmas reminds us that God has ripped open the heavens and come down in the person of Jesus Christ. God did not allow anything to separate us from him. Instead, he cleared away all the obstacles.
Thank God for what he did to be present to you. Pray for the grace to overcome the obstacles you face when being present for others.
Father, thank you that you have torn open the heavens and sent your Son into the world. Please help me to be like you and make the effort to give the gift of presence to the people who need me.
