Ezra read plainly from the book of the law of God, interpreting it so that all could understand what was read.
Nehemiah 8:8
Ezra reads plainly from the book of the law of God (Scripture). When he came to passages that were not immediately clear, he explained them so that the people could understand what he had read. It was not enough for the people to simply hear the word of God; they needed to understand it.
We read Scripture to come to a better understanding of God. Some passages are easier to understand than others. Some we can come to understand by simply reading and reflecting upon them. Other passages require help. This is why we have a church family — to help us understand God’s word so that we grow and build our faith in ordinary time.
Thank God today for the Church as a way to help you understand and interpret God’s Word.
