For the Lord delights in you and makes your land his spouse.
Isaiah 62:4c
Isaiah says that despite Jerusalem’s many failures and mistakes, despite her weaknesses, God delights in the city and its people. He binds himself to them as a couple binds themselves together in marriage.
Despite your weaknesses and failures, God loves you and delights in you. He is very fond of you. He commits himself to you when you are good and also when you fail. His love for you is not dependent upon your actions and your good deeds. His love depends on his unchanging character.
Does God allow you to suffer the consequences of your sins and bad choices? Absolutely. He respects you too much to step in and stop it. God is not a helicopter parent. Does he still love you when you sin and fail? Absolutely.
Tell God today that you believe or want to believe that he loves you and delights in you. Ask for the grace to know that love today.
