This week, we are looking at how to grow from unexpected circumstances that come from our bad decisions or choices. As a result of our choices — not outside circumstances — we can find ourselves in a place we never wanted to be. We may want to blame others but know in our heart of hearts, or because it is just so clear, that we are to blame.
Sometimes, they are small mistakes that have built up over time. Relationships weaken because we don’t invest in them. We get deep in debt because we spend just a little bit over our budget every month. Our health fails because we put on just a few extra pounds every year. Then, there are major mistakes that in an instant cause incredible damage.
Sin brings necessary consequences. Yet, there is good news. There are people who find themselves dealing with their own bad choices who grow closer to God rather than move further away. The good news is that being a sinner does not disqualify you from following Jesus — in fact, it is a prerequisite.
Pray today for the grace to turn to God when you face the consequences of your sin and poor choices.
