Today, we begin a new series called “Unexpected.” There are some habits we can develop and lifestyle choices that we can choose so that we grow as followers of Jesus. As a parish, we work to make these habits and lifestyle choices accessible. We talk about serving, tithing and giving, engaging in a small group, practicing prayer, and sharing your faith because each of these practices is vital to growing your faith. Ignore any of them and your faith will be stunted.
God uses predictable habits we choose to grow our faith. Unexpected circumstances are also a pivotal part of growing in faith. During those unexpected times, God can do something to grow our faith that he cannot do during ordinary times.
By definition, we cannot plan for unexpected events — but, we can prepare for them. Over the next few weeks, we are going to look at how to prepare for unexpected events so they draw us closer to God rather than drive us away. As part of the series, we will be learning from Scripture as well as from the stories of members of our parish.
Today, ask God to help you prepare for the unexpected problems and challenges of life.
