In those days after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Mark 13:24-25
Here, Jesus speaks of cataclysmic events that will precede the end of this world and launch the commencement of God’s kingdom. Jesus is also alluding to his own death. The Gospels tell us that when Jesus died, the sun was darkened.
The dark times of life can be important times to strengthen our faith. The temptation might be to ease our suffering so as to escape any discomfort. But we can’t return to the way it was before. In our dark times, we are to look to Christ as the ultimate answer to every prayer, and the balm of all suffering in our life.
Where do we go when it seems as if darkness is our only companion and we feel that God is nowhere to be seen? Be comforted that God is with you before, during, and after any darkness you have in your life. Pray for God’s light to shine on you as you prepare for the season of Advent.
