When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking, “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. That is the first and the greatest commandment.
The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Matthew 22:34-39
When Jesus answers the question about the greatest commandment, he says there really are two connected commandments. We cannot love God without loving the people around us. God values people so much that, in order to love him, we must love people.
Sharing our faith helps us to grow in our love for others. Sharing your faith means that, as you go about your life, you should be on the lookout for people who do not have a relationship with God or his Church and then identify ways you can influence them. This automatically means we take the focus off of ourselves and place it on others. This is absolutely crucial for us to grow spiritually.
The Gospel is good news. It is good news that we have a heavenly Father who loves us and cares for us and sent his Son to die for us. It is the greatest news in history and so, if we truly love people, we will do all we can to bring this news to people who do not yet know it.
Is there someone whom you love who does not know the good news of God’s love? Take a moment to pray for him or her. Ask God to use you to share the good news.
