And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and choked it…And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.” 

Luke 8:7,14

Continuing with the parable of the sower, Jesus outlines the different responses to spiritual growth. He says that some seed fell among weeds and so the growth is choked out. This seed represents the danger of an overcrowded life. Some people don’t grow spiritually because they allow all the activities of life and cares of the world to choke out the growth. 

What do we need to do to have weeds grow in our yards or garden? Nothing. They just happen. Weeds grow in our schedule as naturally as they grow in our yard. If we are not careful, we will choose everything and anything over our spiritual growth and development. 

Pray for the grace to recognize the weeds in your life and the strength to yank them out.
