And a when a great crowd came to him, Jesus said in the parable, “A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the path, and was trodden under foot and the birds of the air devoured it…The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved.”
Luke 8:4-5,11-12
In the parable of the sower, Jesus explains the different responses to spiritual growth. He says that some seed fell on the path and never went into the ground. This represents people who are close-minded or never really get a vision for spiritual growth. Before the word can sink in at all, it is taken away from them.
Spiritual growth requires an open mind. If we do not open our minds to learn about how a practice will help us grow, then we will not benefit from that practice.
Pray today for an open mind to learn about new commitments that will help you grow as a Christ follower.
