But Jesus cried out in a loud voice, and gave up his spirit. And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom.
Matthew 27:51-51a
In the Temple, there was a place called the Holy of Holies. This was an inner sanctum where the presence of God was said to dwell with the people of Israel. Only the high priest could enter into this place and only once a year on the Day of Atonement. The Holy of Holies was set apart with a huge curtain that was inches thick and dozens of feet tall. It was a symbol of the great divide between God and man because of the debt we owed God due to sin.
When Jesus died, this curtain was torn in two from top to bottom. God tore the veil of the temple to show that the divide no longer exists. The debt has been canceled by Jesus’ death on the cross.
Thank Jesus for paying your debt so you can freely enter into a relationship with your heavenly Father.
