When they had gathered together they asked him, “Lord are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He answered them, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:6-8
Jesus tells the apostles that it is none of their business when God is going to finally and completely establish his kingdom. Then he tells them what their mission, what there business is. They are to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and to the ends of the earth. Their job is to introduce everyone to God’s kingdom and into a relationship with God.
The apostles’ mission is our mission as well. God loves us and then invites us to share his love with others by bringing people far from him into a relationship with him. Wherever we go, we have the opportunity to build God’s kingdom by inviting people into a relationship with their heavenly Father. We are to be witnesses of the love God has shown us.
Pray today for the opportunity to be a witness of God’s love to people who don’t know him. Ask God to show you one person you can be a witness to today.
