Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. Leading the flock across the desert, he came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There an angel of the Lord appeared to Moses in fire flaming out of a bush. As he looked on, he was surprised see that the bush, though on fire, was not consumed. So Moses decided, “I must go over to look at this remarkable sight, and see why the bush is not burned.”
Exodus 3:1-3
Exodus tells us that Moses was going through his daily routine as a shepherd for his father-in-law. To get his attention, God gave him a sign. He showed him a burning bush that was not consumed. Moses could have ignored the sign, but he decided to turn aside from his daily routine to examine the sign.
To become like Christ, we must decide that we want it to be a purpose for our lives. We are often consumed with goals and projects or having a good time. Becoming like Christ does not mean ignoring tasks or not enjoying ourselves, but it does mean deciding to care more about our character than our achievements, our comfort, or our pleasure.
Tell God that you want to become like his Son. Ask for the grace to overcome the temptations to make comfort, fun, popularity, or achievement more important.
