Jesus took Peter, John and James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Luke 9:28b-31
Jesus lived his life in community and built a community. He gathered twelve apostles who were his friends. Many times, Jesus would go to pray by himself, but here he takes his three closest apostles. They go up to the mountain to pray and connect with God. While praying, Jesus’ clothes become dazzling white. Moses and Elijah — the two greatest prophets of the Old Testament — appear before Jesus, conversing with him and in community with him.
Jesus continues to build communities of people. He wants to connect us with other followers so that we will have support in our faith. We need a community of people that pray together and help us on our life’s journey.
Today in your prayer time, acknowledge your need for friends in faith. Thank Jesus that he wants to provide them for you.
