Jesus said, “A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its fruit. For people do not pick figs from thorn bushes, nor do they gather grapes from brambles.”
Luke 6:43-44
Jesus uses an analogy here to talk about human nature and the human condition. A good tree does not produce rotten fruit. A healthy tree produces good fruit and a rotten tree produces rotten fruit. Thorn bushes cannot produce figs and brambles cannot produce grapes.
What is true of nature is true for human beings. We often think that the way to do good things or produce healthy fruit is to focus on our actions. Jesus challenges us to look at our hearts and internal motivations. If we are healthy on the inside, then good fruit will come out of us.
When we connect with Jesus, we are transformed from the inside out so that we will produce good fruit. Pray today that Jesus will change and transform you from the inside out.
