See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

1 John 3:1-2

John reminds us of the blessing of God’s great love for us. God gives us life; he creates us and then calls us his children. We are sons and daughters of God – that is our identity through our baptism. God’s love for us is a firm foundation. Since we are God’s children, he calls us to become more like him.

In the coming year, God wants you to reflect his character more and more. Thank God today that he is transforming your character to be like his. Ask God what is one way he wants you to be more like him in the year ahead. Pray for the wisdom to know how you can cooperate with that transformation.
