Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”
Luke 2:8-10
God had given the greatest gift when he sent his Son into the world. However, no one recognized this gift. The gift was made known to shepherds who were watching their flock by night. The angels appeared to the shepherds and told them that they were bringing good news of great joy for all people. This means it is good news for each and every person. It is good news for you.
As human beings, it is so easy to take our gifts for granted. We fail to recognize and see them. We need angels or messengers to help us recognize our blessings. We need to be reminded over and over again of the greatest gift we have in the person of Jesus Christ. His coming into the world is good news of great joy.
Thank God today for the gift of his Son. Thank God that he has given you the Gospels and his Church to remind you of that blessing.
