Then the king will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me…Whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.”
Matthew 25:34-36, 40
Jesus describes the end of time. When he comes to judge the heavens and the earth, he will separate people into two groups. On the one side will be people who have given to others and on the other side those who have not. Jesus tells the group who has given to others that whenever they gave food or drink or welcoming or the gift of their presence to others, they did it for him.
When we are grateful for someone, we often give them a gift as an expression of our gratitude. We send flowers or give some token of our appreciation. We thank God when we give and share what we have with the least resourced of our brothers and sisters.
Pray today for the grace to recognize opportunities to give to people in need today. Ask for the grace to express your gratitude to God by giving.
