Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven…when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Matthew 6:1-4
Jesus tells us that we will be tempted to do good so that others will see our good works and notice us. We want to have a great reputation with human beings and receive human applause. Jesus says if we want a reward from our heavenly Father, we will do good in secret and then God will reward us.
While the kingdoms of the earth are on display for everyone to see, God’s kingdom is built in our heart in secret. We build God’s kingdom in our heart when we love and serve others without expecting anyone to notice or receiving any human reward.
Pray for the grace to do some good deeds today without any human credit so that you can receive a reward from your heavenly Father.
