For forty days and forty nights every heavy rain poured down on the earth. On the very same day, Noah and his sons Shem, and Japheth, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of Noah’s sons had entered the ark, together with every kind of wild animal, every kind of tame animal, every kind of crawling thing that crawls on the earth, and every kind of bird…The Lord wiped out every being on earth: human beings and animals, the crawling thing and the birds of the air; all were wiped out from the earth. Only Noah and those with him in the ark were left.
Genesis 7:12-14, 23
God promises to send the rain and then he does. Noah and his whole family enter the ark with every kind of wild animal. God sends the flood to start over with him family and to wipe out the evil from the face of the earth. Only by being on the ark can anyone be saved.
The ark has long been thought as prefiguring the Church. In the same way that Noah and his family are saved from the flood by getting on the ark, we are saved by getting on the one boat that is the Church.
Thank God today for the Church and the community of believers.
