God said to Noah: Make yourself an ark of gopherwood, equip the ark with various compartments, and cover it inside and out with pitch…. I, on my part, am about to bring the flood waters on the earth, to destroy all creatures under the sky in which there is the breath of life; everything on earth shall perish. I will establish my covenant with you. You shall go into the ark, you and your sons, your wife and your sons’ wives with you. Of all living creatures you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, one male and one female, to keep them alive along with you.
Genesis 6: 14, 17-19
Noah finds favor with God. He tells him to build an ark and describes exactly its dimensions and how it should be constructed. God tells Noah that the ark will save him from drowning. Noah participates in his own salvation. God saves him, but there is work for Noah to do.
In the same, Noah works with God to save himself and ultimately the human family, we work with God for the salvation of the world. God saves us and redeems us, but he will not do it apart from us. Also, in the same way that Noah was saved out of obedience and listening to God, obedience and listening to God makes the difference in our lives.
Take a moment to listen to God. Tell God that you are open to hearing from him and obeying.
