But the serpent said to the woman: “You will certainly not die! No God knows well that the moment you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods who know what is good and what is evil.”
The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eyes and desirable for gaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Genesis 3:4-6
Eve listened to the serpent. His way of thinking began to make sense while God’s law did not. Then she looked at the fruit. Nothing seemed wrong with the fruit. In fact, it was pleasing to the eye.
This happens in life. We see things. They are pleasing to the eye. They look good on the surface. They seem like a way to get what we want. We will see some good things and God says stay away from it. Don’t taste it. You really don’t want to know what that fruit tastes like because it might look good, but it isn’t good for you. The question becomes will we trust God’s judgment or not. Do we trust that God is for us and sets limitations for our good and not to keep good things from us?
What looks desirable to you no, but you know God is telling you not to taste that fruit? Confess it to God today and ask for the grace to trust that God is for your well-being and not holding something good back from you.
