Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air and brought the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all cattle, and the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field, but for the man there was not found a helper fit for him.
Genesis 2:18-20
All of creation is perfect and in harmony. However, God notices something that is not good. It is not good for the man to be alone. Man needs a suitable partner. So, then God forms beasts of the field and birds in the air to give them to man, but none of the animals could relieve the loneliness of Adam.
The above passage seems confusing. Didn’t God know that the animals would not be enough companionship for Adam? Did God go through the exercise and then learn and discover that animals were not enough for man? No, of course not. God knew Adam needed a partner, but Adam didn’t. In creating the animals, God is helping Adam to see his own longing. God often does this with us. He allows us to have things that don’t satisfy us so that we will long and search for what truly satisfies.
