Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground the Lord God made grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 2:7-9
The second account of creation communicates God’s closeness and intimacy with his creation, especially human beings. God forms man from the dust of the ground. The words in Hebrew describe the work of an artist, like a potter shaping and forming clay into a work of art. God is hands on in his creation of human beings.
Then God breaths into man’s nostrils to bring him to life, showing our need for intimacy with God. After creating man, God takes time to create a garden, where humanity ha all it needs to survive and thrive.
God has not created you by accident but has formed every part of who you are –mind, body and spirit. Your gender, your personality, every aspect of your being was thought through by God. Thank God today that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Thank God that his breath of life sustains you today.
