Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.
James 4:10 James tells us when we don’t have enough, we should ask God for it. But we must ask God with the right motive and with humility. Bring to God a humble spirit, not a demanding one. Believe that he will supply your needs and your wants in his time. Ask, realizing that God doesn’t owe you anything, while also trusting his goodness to provide it. When you ask, be specific. The more specific you can be with your requests, the more clearly you will be able to see God’s hand in meeting them. Jesus teaches repeatedly that God honors persistent asking. Asking once is often not enough. Why is that? Sometimes, it is God increasing the desire in us. Sometimes, it is because we are asking for the wrong thing and, as we keep asking, God moves our hearts in the right direction. Sometimes, God is waiting on the right timing. Sometimes, there are other spiritual forces opposing the help God is sending. Whatever your situation, you might have to keep on asking again and again until God answers. So, as you pray today, begin by asking God humbly, specifically, and persistently for what you need.
