And people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment and begged him to lay his hands on him. He took him off by himself away from the crowd. Mark 7:32-33
At this point in Jesus’ life and ministry, word was out that he was healing people. He was inundated with sick and disabled people following his every move. Jesus could hardly go anywhere without people begging to be healed. In this passage, a deaf man’s friends or family members bring him to Jesus so that he can lay hands on him and heal him. Away from the crowd of people, Jesus not only gives the deaf man his attention, he focuses on him alone.
Jesus invites us into a personal relationship with him. He wants to give us his undivided attention. Just as Jesus took the deaf man away from the crowd, we need to intentionally choose to get away from the noisy world to be with Jesus. As we spend time with Jesus, one on one, he can nourish us and heal our brokenness. He can rejuvenate us to face the challenges we encounter.
Today, invite God into your daily life. Find a quiet place and share your struggles, fears, and dreams. Open your ears to his words and listen.
