While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennasaret. And he saw two boats by the lake; but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had ceased speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
Luke 5:1-4
Jesus finishes sharing his message. He tells the crowd he is done and that they should go home. So, the people leave. Then Jesus turns to Simon and tells him to move out into the deeper water and let down his nets, because there will be fish to catch.
Followers fish. If you want to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus, from time to time you have to listen to Jesus when he says it is time to fish. It is time to go out and bring some people into a relationship with him. It may not be comfortable, but spiritual growth is often outside our comfort zone.
Pray today for the grace to go deeper in your relationship with Christ by investing in one person over the course of this series through prayer, fasting, and conversation. Pray for that one person right now. Identify one thing from which you can fast.
