I say, then: live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh. For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you may not do what you want. But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Galatians 5:16-18
Paul does not condemn the body; Paul simply warns us not to lose sight of our Spirit, and not to live for self-gratification. There are practical ways we can keep our spiritual life in mind while going about our daily tasks. Simply practicing slowing down and living less hurriedly can go a long way. Jesus was often busy, but he never hurried. Living in constant rush and anxiety takes a toll on our spirit and our body.
Another way to care for your soul is to embrace solitude. In solitude, you find rest and healing for your soul. In solitude, we are alone and don’t try to accomplish anything but simply stop and be by ourselves. So, learn to slow down and then learn to stop. Identify the place where you can have solitude.
Today, practice slowing down and even stopping where possible — whether it’s to slow down driving, not always calculating the fastest lane, or not rushing through dinner or a conversation. As you slow down, ask God to fill your soul with his peace.
