They crucified him, and with him two others, on either side, with Jesus in the middle. Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read, “Jesus the Nazorean, the King of the Jews.”
John 19:18-19
When the Romans crucified a man, they would put the charge over his head. Pilate writes that Jesus is the King of the Jews. Jesus had resisted this title throughout his ministry and even through his trial, but here on the cross Jesus is proclaimed king.
Jesus is proclaimed king on the cross when he performs his ultimate act of service for us. He does not use his kingship to control and manipulate others, but to serve us and bring us into a relationship with his Father.
Take a moment to acknowledge Christ as your king. Thank him for his work and service on the cross.
