At noon darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And at three o’clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” which translated, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Mark 15:33-34
Sin brings about a three-fold alienation or separation. Sin separates us from ourselves as we no longer feel comfortable in our own skin. Sin alienates us from other people; we are at war with others. And sin alienates us from God. Jesus on the cross felt the full weight of this alienation. He was abandoned by his closest friends and then felt the separation from his heavenly Father.
Jesus, who never sinned, experienced the pain of sin so that we could have a relationship with our heavenly Father. Thank Jesus today for experiencing that alienation so that you could live in relationship with God and others.
