Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.
Matthew 24:43-44
The parable Jesus tells is a little frightening, but it is an example of one of the “uncomfortable” truths that he tells us because he knows we need the message. Ultimately, Jesus gives us the truth not to scare us, but so we will be prepared and ready for the realities of life. It is only when we hide from reality, from the truth, that we are caught off guard.
We need the unpleasant truth because it sends us running into the arms of grace, where we can be set free. The reality is that we are often not ready for grace until we have faced the difficult truths about ourselves.
Are you prepared to receive the truth even when it is challenging or uncomfortable? Ask God to give you the grace of courage and humility to grow as a man or woman of truth.
