When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it and some bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have caught.” So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.”
John 21:9-12
The event described above takes place after Jesus’ death and resurrection. Peter and the other apostles are unsure of their future and what it holds. And so the apostles go back to their old way of life by going fishing. It is there Jesus greets them and invites them to simply have breakfast. After breakfast, Jesus will invite Peter to be the leader of his flock.
The story reminds us that Jesus wants a relationship with us. He wants to dine with us and be a part of our daily lives. Jesus is the risen Lord who invites us into an intimate friendship with him.
Ask Jesus for the grace to develop an intimate friendship with him.
