The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them out into his vineyard. Going out about nine o’clock, the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.’ So they went off. And he went out again around noon and around three o’clock, and did likewise.
Matthew 20:1-4
Jesus tells the story of a landowner who has a vineyard. Throughout the day, the landowner goes out into the community to hire workers in his vineyard. He goes out early in the morning, at noon, mid-afternoon, and so on until evening time to bring more and more laborers to work for him. And at the end of the day, he rewards each of them, not based on their performance but based on his generosity.
This parable is an image of our heavenly Father. He is constantly inviting more and more workers into his vineyard. He invites us to build his kingdom and share in the rewards of his kingdom.
Ask God to help you to see how he wants you to build his kingdom today.
