Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:8
Paul writes that we have an ongoing obligation as Christians, an ongoing debt to love one another. We have a debt to love others because Christ has loved us first. Jesus loved us radically us by laying down his life for us on the cross. We are who we are because God loved us first.
In light of this love we have received, Paul says we have an obligation to love others. The obligation doesn’t mean a huge burden. No one likes feeling obligated. A better way to see it is as overflowing out of us. God pours his love into us and we pour that love onto others.
Ask God today for the grace to love everyone you meet.
