Jesus said to him in reply, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Master, I want to see.” Mark 10:50-51
Jesus, knowing that Bartimaeus is blind, asks him what exactly he wants. Bartimaeus answers that he wants his sight back. He wants to see.
The irony is that even though he had been physically blind, spiritually he could see that Jesus was the Messiah when others could not. And since the blind man sees so clearly spiritually, Jesus matches his physical condition with his spiritual one.
Is there a place in your life where you are blinded by your need to control? Where do you need to see yourself more clearly? Maybe you are starting to wake up to the idea that you do not need to create another identity for God. So, start there. Let go of the shame you feel when you are genuine and ask God specifically for clear eyes from which to view the world as his son or daughter.
