But you are not in the flesh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is alive because of righteousness.


Romans 8:9-10


Paul writes to the Romans that we are not in the flesh. The flesh does not mean the body, but rather the spirit that is opposed to God and his will or does not care about God’s will. The flesh wants its own way and is focused on itself. Instead, we are in God’s Spirit.


We have the holy Spirit living within us. Since the holy Spirit lives within us, we are alive and in right relationship with God. We have the ability to follow God and honor him with our lives. We have the ability to obey God — we just need to yield to God’s spirit.


Pray for the grace to live according to God’s will and Spirit and not according to the flesh.
