Peter said, “We must obey God rather than men. The God of our ancestors raised Jesus, though you had him killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as leader and savior to grant Israel repentance and forgiveness of sins.”
Acts 5:29-31
Peter and the other apostles are brought before the Sanhedrin, the very group that conspired to have Jesus crucified. They tell Peter and the apostles that they must stop speaking about Jesus. Peter, who had denied knowing Jesus out of fear just a couple of months earlier, now tells the Sanhedrin he will not stop speaking. He says that he must obey God rather than men.
When we make obedience to God our priority, we have greater freedom. When we live in obedience to God’s spirit, we can have the courage to live for a purpose that is greater than ourselves.
Pray today for the desire to please and obey God rather than men.
