Then Judas, his betrayer, seeing that Jesus had been condemned, deeply regretted what he had done. He returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, “I have sinned in betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? Look to it yourself.” Flinging the money into the temple, he departed and went off and hanged himself.
Matthew 27:3-5
Judas regrets what he did, but he never repents. Regret stews on past mistakes and sins. It is an entirely useless exercise. Repentance is something we can do in the present to bring about a better future. We repent when we acknowledge our sins and have a change of mind and a change of heart about them. To repent means to walk away from our sin and walk back toward God.
Pray today for the grace not to live in regret when you fail. Pray for the grace to repent and turn back to God.
