With loud shouts, however, they persisted in calling for his crucifixion, and their voices prevailed. The verdict of Pilate was that their demand should be granted. So he released the man who had been imprisoned for rebellion and murder, for whom they asked, and he handed Jesus over to them.
Luke 23:23-35
The Jewish leaders stir up the crowd to demand the crucifixion of Jesus. Pilate acquiesces since the crowd poses more of a threat to him than does Jesus. Not only does Pilate make the poor decision to execute an innocent man, he also releases a man who is guilty of rebellion and murder.
When comfort becomes our goal, we set ourselves up to compromise our integrity. We set ourselves up to make poor decisions. We will go along with the crowd because it is easier than standing firm in our convictions.
Pray for the grace to resist the crowd when you know they are leading you away from God and your personal integrity.
